Iowans choose their guy

And the people of Iowa have spoken. Their man? Mitt Romney. Wait, I'm sorry, what?! Shock horror! IT'S A TIE!!!



That's right, the good people of Iowa have declared that the current state of the GOP nomination race is a dead heat. The 'next-in-line' - Willard Mitt Romney - found himself locked with surprise guy Rick Santorum who actually won by 34 votes but, for all intents and purposes, it was a tie. This is perhaps the first demonstration that Romney can connect with grassroots Republicans given Iowa's strong agricultural background but also shows he still has a ways to go before he can lock-up this race. Being a multi-millionaire is a state of mind, not that of your bank balance...

The biggest loser was Rick Perry who failed to capitalise on his own Texan cotton-farming background to woo Iowans, whose cornerstone issue is that of ethanol production subsidies, something uncomfortable for supply-side reforming Republicans. All in all, a good day for Mitt, a bad day for Rick. Perry will soon be a goner...
